I cannot answer this one from a 14 year old's point of view, but I can answer it from a physical point of view.

I do not know what physical shape you are in (whether you hyperventalate walking to the corner) or if you can run all day long. First thing I can tell you is to start out slow and test your physical limits. You do not need to be discouraged right off the bat.

If you have a hard time running, then mix walking and running on a track or around the block. Also, as already mentioned - abs. When doing sit-ups (or crunches) hold it in the 1/2 way position. Remember feeling the burn is o.k. and is not a bad thing.

Another thing is your diet, what do you eat or drink. Diet sodas are not always the best thing to drink. Switch the sodas you drink to water (I put Crystal Lite packets in my bottled water). When looking at things to eat, look at the FAT calories (or total fat) more than regular calories.

Other than running, borrow your mom's bicycle (if she has one) and go riding. One of my friends dropped close to 50 pounds by cycling, but he did it almost religious and daily when in college.

But when using a treadmill jog at an good average pace for you and then pick up the pace (sprinting on the track) for 30 to 45 seconds and then go to the normal pace again. My normal setting is 6.5 on the treadmill (I'm getting old it used to be 7.5), and I sprint between 9.5 to 10. I also stay on the treadmill (or run) for appx. 20 to 30 minutes and then hit the weights, but also when not doing that I usually try for 35 to 45 minutes.

I hope this helps, and remember by building a good physical habits now (your age) you can use it for the rest of your life. Take care and good luck with the 5 pounds.

Well you could go mow the lawn, that always burns alot of calories, but when I was 14 I didn't want to do that. Well you could buy a dance tape and workout like that or just turn on some upbeat music and dance until you drop or at least for 30 minutes. Who says working out couldn't be fun?

Remember, at whatever level of fitness you...it takes the heart to really get pumping to be considered a good workout. If your treadmill can elevate, try raising the incline a few minutes into your warm-up. it will get your heart beating fastersooner...making your workout more beneficial.

Eat less calories and use the treadmill more or simply go out for a walk this will burn off fat.

it is nearly impossible for girls to get buff (unless they use steroids) but a way to get stronger is to run. No one likes to Run but it works the best. Try sit up cause it works your abs and that is the core of your body, your abs get strong --> then so does the rest of the body. If you want to lift, start with push ups then when your ready to go to the gym, do little weight but lots of reps...good luck!
