Jake excels in math and is a good hockey player. Still, his best friend, Luke, always seems to outdo him at everything. Because of his desire to do as well as Luke, Jake puts undue pressure on himself. He feels anxiety before every contest seeing everything as a "win lose" event. Now Jake has a chance to compete with Luke for a posistion on the school hockey team. Jake knows he puts too much pressure on himself and that his perfectionism is a problem, but he feels like he'd love to beal Luke just once at something this important. What would you do?

Jake needs to relax. This is his best friend. Each player needs to do their best, and not compete with each other. Just do their best. What is most important to him, beating his freind at this "competition" or keeping his best friend his best friend? This hockey position is only temporary, the friendship can last past school, and well into adulthood.

well am i jake jeff or luke? lol kinda hard to follow excatly what you mean but i know what your talking about in gerneral
and i say no it's just a normal part of growing up i played hockey for 14 years and it's just the nature of being a young male that competive drive that you talk about he should be supported to go for it and told that he's expected to make the team but then if he dosent tell him it's ok and to try again next year after some more trainning this helps develop a work ethic and a sense of personal drive as opposed to telling him to just try his best and it doesnt matter will kill that pretty quickly i mean what if your boss at work was like it's ok you messed up on this you did your best you wouldnt achive as much and your work would naturaly slack even with out meaning to people really only just live up to what expected of them so expect alot out of you kid and give him credit for
trying to meet those goals without telling him that it was ok to fail
