I think that this is who you are looking for, He fits the description and time line.
Jonathan Pike (born 1949 in Leatherhead, Surrey) is an English painter.
He was an architectural painter, primarily a watercolourist, he also painted occasionally in gouache and oils.
. He specialized in views of Venice, Cuba, Rome, and Florence as well as London and Dublin. Recent paintings.Probably the finest architectural painter of his generation.

One painting is of Palazzo Correr Contarini, date unknown.

also try auction houses, as they may have heard of him.
