I could help you, but GMC didn't make an Envoy until 2002... so what do you have? A Jimmy? Here's the procedure for that:

Use the following procedure in order to program a universal transmitter in order to replace a hand-held transmitter:

Turn OFF the engine.
If the universal transmitter has been programmed previously, proceed to Step 3. Otherwise, hold down the 2 outside buttons on the transmitter until the red light flashes rapidly (approximately 20 seconds). Release the buttons. This erases the transmitter's memory and any previous settings.
Hold the end of the hand-held transmitter against the bottom surface of the universal transmitter so that the red light is still visible.
Press the button on the hand-held transmitter and the desired button on the universal transmitter. Continue to hold both buttons through step 5.
Hold both buttons until the red light on the universal transmitter flashes rapidly. The rapidly flashing light, which may flash for up to 90 seconds, indicates that the universal transmitter has been successfully programmed. Release the buttons on the hand-held and the universal transmitters once the red light begins to flash rapidly.
If you require additional assistance with programming the universal transmitter, call customer service at 1-800-355-3515.

You should point your handheld tward the green light on your opener and hold the button down until the light goes out. That should do it. Luck!
