Andy Rooney - DID YOU KNOW?
As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S Supreme Court you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view. It is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments!
DID YOU KNOW? As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.
DID YOU KNOW? As you sit inside the courtroom, you can see the wall, right above where the Supreme Court judges sit, a display of the Ten Commandments!
DID YOU KNOW? There are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal Buildings and Monuments in Washington, D.C.
DID YOU KNOW? James Madison, the fourth president, known as "The Father of Our Constitution" made the following statement: "We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."
DID YOU KNOW? Patrick Henry, that patriot and Founding Father of our country said: "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ".
DID YOU KNOW? Every session of Congress begins with a prayer by a paid preacher, whose salary has been paid by the taxpayer since 1777.
DID YOU KNOW? Fifty-two of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established orthodox churches in the colonies.
DID YOU KNOW? Thomas Jefferson worried that the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of interpreting the law would begin making law. An oligarchy the rule of few over many.
DID YOU KNOW? The very first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay, said: "Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers." How, then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 220 years in this country is now suddenly wrong and unconstitutional? Let's put it around the world and let the world see and remember what this great country was built on.
It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, it is very hard to understand why there is such a mess about having the Ten Commandments on display or "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the other 14% to Sit Down and SHUT UP!!!

Christianity is part of Americas history. Therefore the 10 commandments does have some museum like quality.
If non-believers were treated a little better maybe they would not be so bitter.

Majority rule, minority rights? anyone?

Alleged quote from James Madison: “We have staked the whole future of American civilization and political institutions on our capacity to govern ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.”

This is another unverified quote spread by David Barton. According to Church & State magazine (July/August, 1996 article “Christian Nation,” Barton has issued a statement admitting that certain quotations attributed to prominent historical figures in his 1992 book “The Myth of Separation,” are either false or, at best, questionable, and he admits that this is one of the most controversial among them.

i didnt bother reading all of those, srry.

i thought you were going somewhere different with all this, like "religion isnt supposed to be in the government, man!" or some crap like that.

what you need to come to terms with is that we live in a world filled with frivilous lawsuits and an environment conductive to whiney shits getting their way (im not callin the other 14% shits, im talking abt the ones that just piss and moan abt it).

what the whiney little shits need to come to terms with is that every religion has some set of rules that are basicly identical to the 10 commandments. we just use the ten commandments cuz ya kno, white majority...plus 10 is a satisfying number, isnt it? those 10 commandments are what collective society can agree on as good things to do. what the whiney shits do is see the 10 commandments and the "religion in government" black siren of whiney doom goes off, never pausing to think..."wait, maybe it's there because those rules make sense"

some people, eh?

I didn't know that, and I don't particuarly care. The US can give dominance to Christianity if it wants, but it shouldn't be surprised if it becomes an international pariah. Or on the other hand it should accept that a large proportion of its people aren't Christian, and not give Christianity preferntial treatment. It can remove God from its currency and public institutions and take its place amongst the mature nations of the world.

Your choice.

yes, I know

the idea was to escape religious persecution ... sit down and shut up huh, sounds like the pot calling the kettle black

... and although 86% of people in the US may believe in God (no idea where you got that stat), that doent make them Christian, or even speak of thier belief in the bible, or the ten commandments (only 2 of which are laws)

however, if you are just trying to make Chirstians look stupid ... I think you're doing a super job :)

I did know those things but I don't agree with the sit down and shut up part. I believe in God with all my heart and try to follow Jesus, but I also believe in freedom for all, including religious freedom and freedom of speech. I don't have to agree with whatever is said, but I agree with the right to say it.

May God Bless you.

Why don't you tell us to sit down and shut up?? Gee, doesn't sound very Jesus like. You think just because your religion says you're going to heaven for believing you don't need to have some sort of respect for other people or be a decent person. Do you think Jesus would really want you to say things like that in his name?

Well, its great that you can tell one side of the story. In reality the majority of our founding fathers were Deists but this is not the forum to discuss. I suggest you read more about this topic.

I wish it was that easy, but remember, God gave them freewill to believe or not. It's their choice. And we need to keep in mind that these things need to come about, before the end comes. (getting rid of god) Just hold strong to your Faith and never let up. God Bless.

did you know that I already know this? Do you know how much it would cost to fix all of that? ALOT. Its best for our country if we leave it there until we can pay for it, which is likely to be never.
