I've tried the rental places but they only rent vans local and I'm not going to put them in a bobtail truck. I would like to rent a van because there are a few other things that I have to move also.

Well, I would suggest renting a van from one of the rental car places. http://www.enterprise.com/car_rental/home.do is one place to start.

Also, I would get pet carriers for all involved. It is the safest way to travel. If you get tranquilizers from the vet, make sure that they get plenty of water, as my dog had a SERIOUS case of constipation from them when moving from AZ to Ohio.

Might I suggest that you get an MP3 player and speakers for the trip. Cargo vans may or may not have a CD player and I know you are going to loose FM/AM during the trip. The MP3 players have adapters that can tune into a radio frequency.... You are going to need the distraction considering your "food chain" is going to be none too happy with the trip.

Good luck, God Speed and have a very safe move!!

Have you considered getting an SUV or mini-van rental? I would think it would be big enough for all your animals, and I know from personal experience that they do rent one-way. Your other alternative is to ship them by air; given the cost of gasoline and the rental cost of the vehicle, that might be the better choice, and certainly it would be less stressful on the animals.

I moved 1500 miles (from Colorado Springs to Seattle) with two cats, and that was a royal pain in the tuchas!

http://www.royalpaws.com/Pet_moving_service.htm This is just an alternative. It will be difficult to rent a van one way. perhaps an SUV with one of the chain rental places like Budget. When you get to your destination, keep your cats indoors for a month, so that they will not leave and try to return to their previous home. Once they feel at home, they are least likely to leave and will establish their new territory. Good luck. You may need to buy carriers and get a sedative for your cats from a vet. I hope things improve for you soon.
