What field in Science and engineering would be closest to the design and construction to new snowboard, golf club technology? A title of a major and why this pertains to what I’m talking about. Thanks alot

Mechanical engineer and material science/engineer will be closest. There is frequently an overlap between these two disciplines when it comes to mechanics of materials. Someone doing this professionally will probably be involved in various aspects of material selection/testing/development, mechanical design, finite element stress analysis, prototype and testing, and manufacturing. They may be involved in quality, or that may be handled by the quality/reliability department.

Materials engineering would have to do with development of materials for use in different applications. My degree is in ceramic materials engineering. But you can just as easily specialize in polymer science, fiber technology, textile chemistry, textile engineering.

If you are interested in actual design then you would have to first get to know materials in general, and then do specializations in composites. Meaning can you overlay a polymer over a carbon fiber matrix, or can you use cotton fibers to reinforce a thermoplastic snowboard, or does drilling holes in a driver head really make it swing easier, etc.

Yeah, your best bet is a materials engineering or chemical engineering program with strong emphasis on composites. Mechanical engineering is too often automatically tracked toward automotive or machine design, and not necessarily materials.

Word of warning!!!!! Chem E is a very very VERY tough college curriculum. Probably the toughest there is. Take it from someone who finally gave up and went to ceramics/materials.
