We have a German Shepherd who is pregnant. This is her second litter but her first with us. We are expecting the puppies in about 12 days. However, today she has started following me around more than usual. She is also panting alot. I know this is a sign of labor but she shouldnt be having her pups yet. She was with our male before we saw them mate...but would they mate again if she was already pregnant? I am just worried that there is something wrong. She is eating as normal. We have the whelping box ready, but she isnt in it...she is just following me. If you have any ideas of what could be going on please let me know!

You never know, is she digging a sure sign is nesting (Digging) Also you need to take her temperature if it has dropped to 98-98.3 then you are going to have puppies in the next 48 hours. Normal 101. Sometimes they wont go in the box with out being made to. My last liter my girl would not go into the box until about 1 hour before puppies came.

She could have mated sooner than you had witnessed. She may be in very early labor or she just pooped out from caring the pups. Not all dogs stop eating just before giving birth some chow down up to delivery time. I had one who eat right up that point.
Dogs can mate several time which makes it hard to know exactly when they should or will deliver. I'd just watch her very carefully for the next few days and see what happens. Get things ready for her to whelp just in case things get started early.
She is following you around because you are her comfort and she know you will help her if she needs you.

There is a such thing as early pregnancy. She is probably ready to have birth. She's probably following you because she wants you to be with her when the time comes. The pantind is a sign of getting tired and is probably experiencing little contractions.

No, She most likely is ready to give birth. Just give her a lot of water right now, she must be a little stressed out, and give her some towels or blankets.
