You should eat carbs (not so much protein) about 2 days before your race. Pasta, rice, potatoes are great to eat. These are complex carbs. On race day, avoid these foods. You need simple carbs for the body to breakdown quickly. I always ate bagels (about 2) before my race. You can also get a powerbar and remember to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Just remember, have fun and good luck!

You should eat carbs, carbs, and more carbs! You don't even need to eat meat. I'm not a vegetarian, but now that I think about it, steak and chicken aren't up there in the things I eat before a meet. It really doesn't matter what you eat the night before as long as it's healthy, and it fills you up well. The night before is when you should eat heavy, so you have enough energy for the next day. Then the day of the race, eat lightly. During class, you should eat some sort of crackers (I like goldfish), and some fruit, bananas perhaps since you said you eat those. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water too! As you said, pasta, bananas, and nuts should keep you good. Good luck! :)

You want to eat a heavy dinner the night before the meet. So maybe eat some meat for protein. And then the day of, you want to eat light things that have plenty of carbs. Pasta is great. It's healthy, and it's got a ton of carbs for energy. Bagels are good too. I also like to eat crackers or goldfish a couple of hours before my race if I am still hungry. You should definitely stop eating at least an hour and a half before though. Fruits like bananas are good too. They have natural sugar, which is good for energy. Don't eat apples before a race though. They give you cramps, or so my teammates say. Well, I hope that helped you out! Have a good season!

I run XC and track. Before EVERY XC meet, the team would all go out to dinner somewhere. The best places are italian restaurants. Eat pasta with a sauce that is not creamy. Also, stay away from too much cheese. Cheese will still be sitting in your stomach during your race. Don't load up on salad. Salad will fill you up, but it doesn't do anything for you. For protein, you need meat. Get a meat sauce on your pasta, or meatballs. Spaghetti with meatballs is a great pre-meat meal. Good luck

If you're sprinter/hurdler anything under 800M(as I was)
lean protein is good, a good lean steak(even liver, I don't like liver though) and something that has multiple grains,12 grain bread, wild rice, broccoli, dark green veg for iron.

In the morning make sure you eat at least 4hrs( for my olympic trials I had to eat breakfast by 5:30 a.m) before your run a good quality breakfast, if you didn't get in your protein at dinner now is the time. Don't worry if you eat 4hrs before your race it will be digested and now being used as fuel for the muscles. Carry a banana(potassium and sugars) with you or nuts, walnuts, cashews for during the day it will replenish lost stores, drink lots of water, even have a little bit of salt not too much (in the sun heat, anxiety you will sweat during warm up/races etc losing salt)
