Hi, I am a licensed Cosmetologist and really the only thing that makes your hair grow is to stimulate it where it grows from....
at the scalp.
Buy a plastic bristle brush and every night before you go to bed, brush your head. Yes, I said your head, not hard or anything like that, just brush it and try to brush into the hair so that it is massaging your scalp. Also, just massaging your scalp every night. The hair lives on blood that is in your scalp, and if you massage your scalp this will create a more even and healthy blood flow to the roots of the hair and will help it grow.
Also, regular hair "trims" are important to keep the breakage to a minimum. If the hair keeps breaking off, it will always appear to not be growing. When in fact it is, it's just breaking off.
A good salon quality shampoo and conditioner will also help to keep the hair in condition so that breakage is kept to a minimum. But these products do not make the hair grow faster.
All the "store bought" brands that claim they do are false.
Welcome to America, the land of false advertising.
So use good salon products for your hair.
Yes, they cost more, but they are better.
Good luck.

try taking a prenatal vitamin even if your not pregnant. I took it during both of my pregnancies and continued to take them afterwards. It makes my hair healthier and stronger not to mention it helps my nails too. Also switch your shampoo about every 2 months, for some reason your hair can actually get so use to the same shampoo and conditioner that it eventually stops working the way you want it too. Something I just tried was SunSilk, pink for me, but they have a great selection for all hair types. This shampoo and conditioner is fairly cheap and smells so good. Good luck!!

Get your hair cut regularly, every 6 weeks, actually helps your hair grow healthier and quicker. Also try using a mosturizing or strengthening shampoos and conditioners. Paul Mitchell's strengthening shampoos and conditioner work really well. They sell them for 2 liters for $25 in the spring (now!) and in the fall, if you are interested in that.

Cutting your hair frequently is good when you are tying to grow your hair. When your hair has really bad splint ends it will grow slower. Try not to use products that will damage your hair (such as blowdryers and flatirons). Also try a shampo and conditior this is meant to help grow hair.

I had the same problem.
But, one of my friends told me that using Horse Shampoo will make it grow.
It's like 5 bucks a Walmart.
It's called something like: Hair and Mane
I don't know exactly but, look for something like that.
Try it

Make sure you eat well. Trust me it does effect growth because it's how quickly you make cells. Also make sure you don't use lots of heat products on it try tying it up more often but not too tight.
