I want to find a website or some way of locating when the cheapest time to travel to a given location is. For example, I want to go to Australia, and I have a flexible schedule. Short of searching on Travelocity (or other such site) a million different dates, is there a site that will compare the times for me and tell me "it's cheapest to fly from LAX - Sydney in September" or whatever?

To be clear, I don't specifically need the Australia answer, I just want to find a website that can help me locate the best times to travel to different locations!

In general, the off-season is the cheaper time to fly, when you are comparing month-to-month. The hotels will be cheaper, too, as long as you avoid holidays.

I use kayak.com and it lets me search for all possible leave/return combinations within 3 days of my original request and shows a grid.
