I'll share with you Northern Virginia's best kept secret:

The Esposito's in Fairfax

http://www.openlist.com/restaurants-view-7033855912.htm

You won't find any big splashy advertising anywhere... and if a guy comes out of the kitchen in black chinos and a white t-shirt, don't be surprised... it's totally authentic Southern Italian fare. The owners are from New Jersey and you get real Italian food the way it's prepped and consumed in Italy.

It's not expensive, but tastes it... and while they call themselves "family friendly" my husband and I went at lunchtime during the week and it was all business casual folks and our waiter was dressed and doted without overwhelming us with his presence, pouring our wine when necessary and refilling waterglasses without us really noticing him there.

Chino guy is chatting with regulars in the bar area, but 20 feet away I thought I was in an upscale Little Italy offering.

This is their modest little web site: http://www.freewebtown.com/espositos/index.html but it doesn't even have their dinner menu on it. Restaurant Row can show you that: http://www.restaurantrow.com/MoreInfo.cfm?Code=808504&state=VA

View the menu... and do the drive... and give it a whirl. I promise the food will not disappoint and the experience will be something you would NEVER expect in Northern Virginia. Sicily, definitely. New York City's Little Italy... most likely so. Fairfax, never - lol

do not believe the hype. I lived in DC for decades and flow again somewhat oftentimes. I loved in NE and NW. NE is effective alongside the Capital and jap marketplace. SE is effective round jap marketplace. NW is effective round Georgetown, the Zoo, Adam's Morgan, Woodley Park. yet, NW round tenth and N is entire crap, nicely it really is getting more advantageous powerful. I could say 1st via 9th streets. So in case you'll visit flow to the parts that i discussed that are effective. a number of my sought after eating places are in NE on Mass. Ave close to Union Station. DC is a great city with lots to furnish. in simple terms use elementary experience even as walking round at evening. i'd furnish a similar suggestion for the different enormous city. take in the nationwide Mall, Memorials, Smithsonian, artwork Gallery, eating places, and so on... %. up a Washington city Paper, The Blade, or Hill Rag to verify what's occurring for activities that week.

Check out 2941 in Falls Church.

It is a great restaurant. I used to live right near it.

Also Russia House in historic Herndon.
(ate their last Christmas Eve and was very impressed by the atmosphere, food, and service).
