Im baking cookies with my friends and we look at the recipies but we have no idea what cream shortening is! HELP

"Cream shortening" is a whipping process. When you are making cookies you cream the shortening with the sugar, which means that you beat it until it is light and fluffy.

If by "cream shortening" you are referring to butter...then Yes. you can use it in place of a vegetable shortening. If you are going to have the icing where the air temp will be above 85 F then your icing may start to melt. It is because of the melting point that most recipes use vegetable shortening,instead of, or in addition to,... using butter...the icing holds up better. My own personal buttercream icing is a mix of half butter and half Crisco.

It means shortening that comes in a bucket sometimes called lard or you can use the butter type shortening sticks.

To cream it means to melt it slightly so it is soft.

Cream shortening with sugar means to blend them till they are one amalgamated mass.
To "Cream" shortening means to blend it thoroughly with another ingredient. Sometimes eggs, sometimes sugar, etc.

its the Crisco in a can. the solid white stuff, made from whipped vegetable oil.
