I live in Vancouver, and love it. (I live right on the edge of Vancouver/Burnaby). I don't think I would like living out in Langley, it's nice, but I want a city or the country, not that suburban grey area, lol.
Anyway, I have also lived in Calgary, and I liked it very much too. I disagree about it being like U.S. cities though ... I have lived in U.S. cities, including "redneck" areas. It may be a bit redneck by Canadian standards, but .. well ... I would call it more just a healthy outdoorsy feeling.
While the winter weather is colder in Calgary, and it snows, they also have the occasional Chinook winds that come in from the west and raise the temps for a few days and melts all the snow. I have also been in Calgary when there was snow on the ground in August! Because of the proximity to the Rocky Mountains, Calgary weather is very changeable and very interesting!
You won't find Calgary much cheaper than the Vancouver area, but as another person said, you won't find it more expensive either, unless you work a minimum wage job, as the min wage is lower.
The two cities are definitely very different though, and Calgary might be a good change of pace for you! I liked it there, except, well, it's not green enough for me, and not enough trees ... something about it being in middle of the prairies, LOL!!

Between Langley and Calgary, you'll find the cost of living about the same. Outside the big cities, though, Alberta homes and rents are cheaper than B.C.'s.
As for quality of life, it's all about how much you like being cold. Alberta winters last forever, from the perspective of a lower mainland person. Calgary's just dull brown grass for much of the year, and you sure can't grow tomatoes there. Smog's about the same in both places.
Calgary architecture is cool though, and it's great getting out to the mountains (not that you can't do that from Langley).
Another quality-of-life issue is the people. In many ways Calgary is more like a U.S. city than Canadian (think 'rednecks'). Edmonton is more cosmopolitan.
A final thought: over the years many more Albertans have moved to B.C. than the other way 'round. Guess why.

It was cheaper...but with the economy boom over the last few years Alberta's cost's are on the rise and our minimum wage is still quite low.
Both are great, but I think if you want a change Albreta might be fun for a while. It shouldn't leave you any worse off, and at least we don't have PST.
Hope that helps!

With its pile history and downtown beaches, Vancouver has the rightly received standing of being one of the most wonderful cities on earth, with hotelbye you could have the chance to see this unique city. One of the places you'll need to see in Vancouver is the Downtown Vancouver. Downtown Vancouver is brilliantly situated on a peninsula in the Strait of Georgia bounded to the south by the delta of the Fraser River and to the north by a serious fiord reaching much inland. Here you may also see the often snow-covered stages of the Coast Mountains. Stanley Park is one of the very most visited parks. Is just a lavish Peninsula Park of huge trees nearby to Downtown Vancouver. A flat seawall journey encircles the green space, and many visitors take the time to examine on foot or by bicycle. Inland, the park offers several things to do, and readers can spend a full time discovering attractions ranging from the totem poles at Brockton Point to the west coast sea living at the Vancouver Aquarium. Spectacular views really are a normal through the park.

Calgary is expensive. Any major city in the "wealthier" provinces (BC, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec) is going to be expensive. If you like these provinces, then move into a small town.
