I've heard that there are a lot of cases of skin cancer there because it's too close to the south where there is less protection from the sun. Is that true? Is this too dangerous? I'm thinking about moving to Perth, in Australia. Is that a good idea?

The weather has been beautiful in Perth this summer, as always. It does depend on what you like though as there are plenty of people who complain that it is too hot for them. The last week has been between 30 - 39 degrees celcius and it is actually autumn now.
Skin cancer is a problem for people who do not take the sun seriously, although a nice tan looks nice big scars where cancer has been removed do not!
FACT: Australians have the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. Each year over 1400 Australians die from this almost totally preventable disease.

Perth is a great place to live. There are high numbers of skin cancer because people don't wear sunscreen and spend the whole day outside with no sun protection. Cooking your skin every time it's sunny, or "trying to get a tan" are the reason for skin cancer. The sun is getting hotter from the diminishing ozone layer due to global warming and such and has nothing to do with being close to the south. The south of what, anyway? All places are dangerous. For example, would I not move to Africa coz it has hot sand? That's a kinda strange excuse! If you want to move to Perth then do it!! But only you can decide!!

Hi i live in perth and have done my whole life, its a little bit boring but if you want to live somewhere that you can relax and have a bit less stress in your life ,come here by all means, and as for the skin cancer stuff just make sure you SLIP SLOP SLAP and youll be fine. The weather is mostly beautiful just in the height of summer its a bit too hot like February and early march but the rest of the year the weather is mostly comfortable, winter is my favourite with beautiful days with rain and 15-20 degrees. Today is a very pleasant 25 degrees, we get a lot of those kind of temperatures in autumn and spring.

Well firstly where I live in far north Queensland, the weather is hot and steamy and wet. People get skin cancer simply because they choose not to slip, slop, slap (that means put sunscreen, hat and long sleeve shirt on). Yes its as dangerous as any other form of cancer. Perth is a great place you will love it. I dont think it gets too humid over there, not like up here besides we have the rainforest and sea at our doorsteps, Perth is quite different, quite beautiful beaches all along the Western Australia coast line, plenty of places to visit. Great people to meet and places to see.
Enjoy!

Well, australia is afterall a country with the highest skin-cancer rate in the world. but people should take precautionary measures to prevent it. yeah, perth can be hot in summer and the sun is very sharp, but if you cover up well you'll be fine. So, they say you should wear sunglasses, long sleeved shirts, sun screen and of course a hat.

The weather is fine. People who are at risk of getting skin cancer (everywhere in the world) are those who have to work outdoors.
