As soon as they tell you the initial price make a bad expression on your face - preferably show that you are disgusted or something to that effect. Don't even bother to try to offer a lower price, just turn around like you want to walk away. 9 times out of 10 the seller will try to call you back and ask you what price you would like. Then you have to use your judgment, maybe try to go about 1/6 to 1/3 of the initial price and gauge their reaction.
Remember don't smile, always play nasty and you have a better chance of getting what you want for the price that you want. I wrote a really long and interesting blog post about this before, but unfortunately before I had time to add it to my website my hard drive died! I almost cried, ok anyway you probably didn't need to know about the last part. IF you want to know more, ask me, I consider myself somewhat of a bargaining expert now that I have lived in China for more than a year. If you want to ask other people from China about how to bargain feel free to check out my website. It's still under construction, but the forum is somewhat active. www.daxueyingyu.com

1. check out the price from the other shop for the same product or similar
2. when you get the market price, you can try to bargain a little lower that (hopefully you get wholesaler price)
3. else, you can think of the price that you willing to pay for the particular product

offer half the asking price to start with. work up from there and see how much they're willing to come down. if you're still not happy with the price then don't be afraid to walk away and come back later. but don't start to bargain and then not buy it cos that is actually quite rude in most countries.
to get the best price meet a local and get them to buy it for you.

Offer what you can pay, if not agreed.. come back later if the product is still there or leave your offer then let them know where they contact you. Give reasons why you really want it, some really have a good heart.
