The day after my grandmas funeral my mother goes and gets her ear cartilidge and nose pierced! Now - she is over 45, has 6 kids, and I am just wondering if it is weird for me to think shes crazy? I am embarassed about her nose ring. To each his own, but does anyone know why she would do something as crazy as a nose ring? I need some help in figuring this one out-its driving me crazy!

ps i know to some a nose ring is nothing-but my mom is sweet and wholesome-this kind of behavior is wild!

It's just a phase... maybe she felt inhibited when her mother was alive and now feels free to do things she always wanted too... people get badly shaken when a parent dies, no matter what age... go along with it... let her know you love her no matter what she does. She will go "back to normal" as she works through her grief makes peace with her mother... don't worry too much.
Best wishes, Ed RN (Psych nurse)

I can guarantee you that you will miss this part of your mother when you lose her.
That is VERY COOL that your mother is open to something new and doing things that will make her happy.
You should celebrate the fact that you have a mother like that (or a mother at all).
Trust me, I lost my mother and all the things that I USED TO think were annoying or embarassing are things that I'd do just about anything to have back now.
You are very lucky! Go give her a big hug and tell her she looks great.

P.S. I'm in my forties with a navel ring. Age is only a number... you'll soon find out.

Maybe she's wanted to do it her whole life, but was afraid of what her mom would think. Now that her mother is gone, she's finally done what she's always wanted. Don't be surprised if she gets a tattoo and a new haircut too. SHe may miss her mom dearly, but there's only so much a woman can bear... As we grow older, we have a tendency to still look to our parents for approval, and if your mom's fear of rejection by your grandma prevented her from adorning herself the way she wanted, well, I'd suggest you go with her and get it done too! Could be a really cool way to bond with your mom and remind her not to suppress you the way her mom did her.

My guess is she didn't want her mother to see her that way. I'm waiting for my mom to kick the bucket and then I'm getting a tattoo. Why? Because I don't want to hear the same speech over and over and over again about tattoos and prostitutes and drug people and yada yada yada...whatever she can come up wiht that's irrelevant and stupid re: the subject.

She does that anyway on other junk, no need to hear it about the tattoo also.

SO, the day she kicks it, I'm going to a parlour...

btw I'm 35 with a 12 yo child...wholesome as Mary Poppins... but you know what they say about us quiet types. *wink*

Don't all kids think their parents are crazy ...

try to remeber how good your really have it, there are so many things in this world more crazy than the mid-life crisis stuff your mom is going through
