A lot of times they're projecting their own worries etc. on something you say. They sometimes have trouble expressing their feelings about work etc so instead of saying "I'm worried about losing my job" they come home and object to something you say, which might be completely innocuous. This gives them an "excuse" to yell and/or sulk all night.
Women are usually much more open about expressing fears, worries etc. than men because we are taught it's OK while many boys are taught to be tough.

Their brains are wired up differently from ours. It's like trying to communicate in a different language - if you're lucky, you will find common ground, but there will still be misunderstandings.
My method is to a) Wait for the commercial break, then b) Get his attention, then c) Say what you mean simply and clearly. If the penny hasn't dropped, explain it again.
Keep it simple, don't confuse him with something like 'Where do you want to go on holiday, and is pizza OK for tonight,?' you will give him a headache.

in what way do you mean taking it the wrong way? if i think you are saying you just want to be freinds but he wants more? but then again not all men have one thing on their mind. like some of the answers if you respect this guy as a freind talk to him and let him know what you want.. hope this helps a bit

You are right they do appear to do that, but I am afraid that I do not know why.....maybe it is simply that they feel insecure at times and perhaps think that we are attacking them when we think we are just offering advice etc. I have found that men can become very defensive, very quickly but if questioned as to why at a later (more calm) it has probably stemmed from a feeling of "letting you down".

women are less tactful round men coz they think they are big and strong and dumb, when they are not really - some men are more sensitive than women and need a lot of tlc and deserve to be treated right.
maybe yours takes things the wrong way coz your not caring enough towards him and only think of your on thoughts, feelings and needs
