Grey imports are cheaper BECAUSE they don't honor the warrantee. No warrantee = reduced price. It's the same for Canon and all the other brands. And it works the other way around here in Europe. In Europe, a European version is more expensive than a US import BECAUSE they don't honor the warrantee on the import. There is no difference in the manufacturing process or quality control. (I can vividly remember the stink regarding Nikon's D200 banding issues in the USA... I use a D200 myself)
As for price differences on eBay... if you're not talking about a few bucks due to the warrantee issue I have no explanation. Generally the prices are a bit higher in Europe than in the USA. In part this is explained by the higher sales tax (19% in Holland, where I live.) Prices in the UK are insanely higher than in the USA.
Perhaps you were thinking in dollars but looking at Euro prices. Perhaps the seller was a fraud. Perhaps everything is ligit, and you'll get hit with an import tax when the item is shipped. Better double check everything.

If those 2 are your options, then you definitely could be conscious of this: The D80 is somewhat more advantageous progressed than the XTi and should be used with assistance from a sophisticated person. The D80 sticks out with valuable factors like intensity of field preview, wider expsure correction variety (+/- 5 EV), more advantageous powerful prevalent photo high quality, it makes use of the swifter and larger conventional SD card and it really is sponsored with assistance from the Nikon F equipment at the same time with virtually any lens ever equipped with assistance from Nikon, the autofocus help is executed with assistance from a dedicated pink lamp (which does no longer annoy human topics). yet having suggested that, the favor for plenty of those valuable factors will in person-friendly words comprise journey. The XTi on the different hand has low noise typically ISO variety, making pictures at ISO 1600 useable (no longer like the D80, which will require some processing formerly that takes position), you are able to believe the presets to convey you very strong pictures in maximum situations, has sensor cleansing function. i do not advise this to sound like a project yet except youll move artwork or something like that, you would make more advantageous powerful use of the XTi.

Nikon cameras that are sold in USA have tighter specifications during manufacturing (thus the increased cost). Nikon USA will NOT HONOR warrenties from a European product, they will not even touch it for repair. They know by serial number if it's a "gray" market camera.

The other important thing to keep in mind is that you're thinking about buying a Nikon instead of a Canon. When it comes to the dSLR's it's all about the lenses and you simply can't do better than Canon L's.

Just trying to be helpful.

while they are consider grey imports so defiantely if they want to hav a share in the market...they would hav to lower down their price to entice ppl to buy right...the bad part of it..is tat they would nt hav local warrety which would be impt...if u want to repair ur stuff at the service centre...

grey imports are original products so they are pretty much the same as the local ones.
