1. In the Noah's Ark story, how did all species of animals after that time maintain a clean gene pool... Presently, there are isolated animal groups developing genetic deformities from not enough variety of genes kinda like brothers and sisters marrying.

2. How did all the animals from around the world travel so far to Noah's Ark... such as bears i.e. panda bears, koala bears, polar bears... how did they all travel to the location of the ark? I was raised as Roman Catholic and never questioned such things.

The Noah's Ark story might be a myth.

1) They didn't have to travel from the other parts of the world because the other parts of the world were not discovered yet. If you remember in history class that it wasn't until Christopher Columbus went out to discover the world was round, not flat. And it was God who brought the animals to Him. Noah didn't have to go searching for the animals.

2) They traveled by foot. I'm sure that God gave the animals strength to walk across the land. Before the floods their wasn't oceans (I think anyways) I don't think the oceans were around until after the floods happened. So they were able to walk long distances to where they needed to go and animals are smart. And just like the wisemen were led by the star to find where Jesus was born. I'm sure that is how these animals were led to the ark. Its just that the bible doesn't tell us so I'm only imaganing how these happen to give us a better idea.

This is what came to mind. And you can always read the bible about the Ark story when you get a chance too. This is what I think of when I read this story.

1) In order to assume a clean gene pool, we must assume that the animals were already inbred enough to need a clean gene pool. If the animals were pure, with a 0.001% inbred coefficient, then the inbreeding would not show as an issue for hundreds of generations....leading to today.

2) You have to remember that the continents have shifted over the last thousands of years. They can actually trace fossil evidence of kangaroos across Asia, down passes and valleys as the population expanded, onto what is now the island of Australia. But you asked how the animals traveled TO the ark. Remember, friend, that this did not happen overnght. The angels escorted the animals to the ark for years until it was ready.

Truthfully, we don't know for sure. But here are some theories:

1 - I don't think gene pool would be an issue - I've raised animals and have seen things like mice multiply - and get hundreds of live animals from only two original parents. Inbred animals are usually genetically "sensitive" and can have issues, but they usually still survive (ie, dog breeds are all inbred 10 or so generations). But over time they multiply, and naturally diversify by evolution (a dirty word I know. LOL). After there are thousands of them, they have a diverse gene pool and the genetic problem takes care of itself.

2 - There are no biblical details about the animals' travel, only that they "came" on their own to the ark, and God drew them there. But keep in mind that animals "find their way" to remote islands and travel over great distances all the time, in ways that surprise people sometimes. That's fascinating actually, and there have been many nature specials about it. :-)

Luke,
The flood story has many variations. Even the Bible has differing accounts.
Seven of each species boarded the ark in one verse and two in another.
It is a story that tries to explain a cataclysmic event in history. There is evidence that at the end of the last ice age as the glaciers melted, the Bosporus was overwhelmed by seawater which flooded the Black Sea. An area about the size of Costa Rica in Turkey was completely covered with water. Now the whole world wasn't flooded, but I bet it seemed that way if you lived in that area of Turkey.

Here's a radical answer for you:

prior to the flood, the animals that existed were essentially prototypes with nearly perfect genetics. I.e. bear, raven, dove, cattle, deer, etc. After the flood, each type of animal 'evolved' into all the subspecies we see today and it was through those sub-species adaptations that the DNA became somewhat corrupted so that close relatives have a higher risk of birth defect.

For those who would say there isn't enough time for that, look at the selective breeding of dogs and how many true breeding varieties there are...all in the last 2-3 thousand years.

-----------------------

Can I have a 'thumbs-down' PLEASE!!!!

If one considers this paradigm, then there would have been ample room on the ark.

1. Since God created the gene pool in the first place he probably gave them the diversity they needed until there was enough of each species.
2.God commanded them to come to the ark. Remember that at this time there was probably just one continent: Pangaea

The gene pool was not nearly as corrupted then as it is now. Because of the Fall of man, things have degenerated over time, and this is why you are seeing various deformities, etc.

As to how the animals went to various parts of the world, at the time of the Flood, there was only one continent (Pangaea), because the earth didn't divide until the time of Peleg, which was quite some time after the flood.

Hope that helps!

Noah's flood was big but not world wide, it was only in a certain area .The target of the flood was people of a certain breeding (Gibborim) that lived around that area. Since the flood was local it necessitated taking into the ark only those animals that were indigenous to that area .

a million. sure. at present's baptism is a believer's way of symbolically "demise" and "resurrecting" therefore of the religious rebirth (see John financial ruin 3). The baptism in Jesus' day replaced into for repentance in undemanding words. 2. study the Scriptural debts of Saul and David being anointed King of Israel. what's the straightforward denominator in both circumstances? answer: an OT prophet, appointed by ability of God, stood as God's witness that the guy replaced into chosen to lead the human beings. He also actually anointed the recent King with oil. In Hebrew, the note anointed is "mechiach," that's transliterated into the English note "messiah." So at the same time as both Saul and David were the "mechiach" of their day, their anointing in basic terms prefigured Jesus' anointing, which replaced into finished by ability of the Holy Spirit because it descended upon Him, appearing to be a dove. Oil has always symbolically stood for the Holy Spirit. So Jesus' anointing fulfilled the symbolism of those earlier anointings.
