My typical day of eating:
Morning - 2 pieces of toast with a cheese slice in between or a bowl of cereal (raisin bran or frosted flakes); and/or yogurt (the kind sweetened with splenda and all that extra vitamin/bacteria stuff); and always one mug of coffee with splenda
Lunch - most often nothing... or a sandwich and/or fruit; or macaroni; or rice
Supper - I still live at home and eat what everyone else has... sometimes pasta, chicken, macaroni, roast beef... one thing for sure: we are big rice and potatoe eaters...
Snack - usually canned/fresh fruit
MY DILEMMA: I've increased my workout from almost nothing to 1-2hrs, 3 days a week full of cardio and strength training. Been doing this for 1 1/2 months.
How come I only notice the difference in how I feel and in my strength, but not visually!? Is my diet too full of carbs? Is snacking one day a week on something like chips bad?
HELP!

Usually I eat around 11 am, and again around 5:30 pm. I usually have a snack around 9:30/10 pm.
What is a protein based breakfast? I do eat eggs on the weekend.
Can caffeine interfere with metabolism? Is it bad that I eat chips usually one day a week as a snack?

you didn't say how long in between the meals are...your body could be in starve mode, which means, eat a pea, it saves it unless it truly truly needs it.
I worked out for an hour a day, 6 days a week for three months. (cardio and strength training) The result? I GAINED weight! did I see anything? nope... By that I mean I saw no noticeable muscle or difference in appearance.
Why? My body was in starve mode. You see, I ate about twice a day, one somewhere around noon and the other somewhere around 10 at night. MUCH too long time in between meals.
Some folks will tell you too much carbs and from what I read that's probably true but don't give them up completely. You still need them.
Try eating more fresh stuff, the canned stuff is good but it often comes with extra sugar (the syrup in some canned foods is just extra sugar you don't need.) Don't skip lunch, have a piece of fruit if you're not hungry or have some almonds (peanuts, whatever nut you like) so that your body knows it's getting food regularly.
You didn't say portions on dinner so if you're "hispanic" you're eating 6 times the portion. I know, I'm one of them. A bowl they call cereal bowl is what I use to feed the birds, I want a real BIG bowl...what they call soup bowl.
Lately though, I've been taking the little bowls and eating off that instead. I'm losing weight little by little, but that's because I'm actually eating now. It's hard though. I'm so used to not eating! Not because I'm anorexic, but because I used to eat big and then nothing for hours and hours. Now I have to eat small but all the time. It's horrid and takes a lot of time, but it's working so I'm sticking to it...

You eat a lot of simple carbs: toast, sugary cereal, yogurt, rice, pasta, potatoes, even fruit can be high in sugar
If you replaced those with complex carbs (whole grain bread, brown rice, beans, more fresh vegetables) and replaced the sugar-breakfast with a protein based one, you'd not only feel better, but you'd lose more weight. It doesn't look like you get enough protein (your weight x 6 = protein grams per meal, assuming 3 meals a day)
All carbs aren't created equal- simple carbs mess with your insulin and makes it difficult to lose fat.

frosted flakes -no, luch - have to have, macaroni -no, pasta-no, where are your veggies???
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and thats how many you need to lose weight.
work out - cardio 4-6 times a week for 30-50min plus light weight training
8 glasses of water a day
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day
instead of big meals eat 5-6 small meals a day (portion control)
no junk food, no bleached flower (e.g.white bread, pasta), no sodas

If you are 17, and 140 pounds, than you lose 1688 calories a day.
Do you see why you aren't losing many pounds. Look at what you eat, and try to eat 1200 calories or less a day to lose weight.

I had the same problem, until I cut out all carbs. As soon as I eliminated carbs I started seeing the results of my hard work. I went from 330 pounds down to 225. As you can tell it worked, I'm right now 6'7" tall and 227 pounds with a six pack. Good Luck.

You are working out getting stronger, not toning your muscles. Look at the afflicted areas and search for good workouts to tone that part of your body.
