Good question - it seems that most people go out wanting to get completely out of their tree before meeting people now don't they!!
I'm sure you're aware of the increasing phenomenon of internet dating - maybe you've tried it already. I know it can seem a little nerve-wracking at first, it's worth a try and you can meet some genuinely nice people on the right sites - who like you don't want to get involved in any drunken mating rituals just to find a bit of pleasant company.
It's also worth thinking about taking a course in a subject you've always been interested in - that way you could meet people with similar interests. Perhaps it's time to learn another language, take up photography, or even find your inner picasso!
Another way to meet people could be to join a club. I joined a running club a few months ago - believe me I'm a total amateur but I needed to get some help with my training after roping myself into a half marathon! You'll find most running clubs are really open to all levels of ability and a lot of them have a great social surrounding them. My club has about 150 people that meet weekly and they regularly set up social events where you get to meet all kinds of people - of your own age and others.
If you did think of joining a dating site I'd say it's worth looking at http://www.match.com/ or http://www.datingdirect.com/. These two you get a free trial then have to pay a small fee for but are probably better than the free ones as you don't get silly people playing silly games on there then. Obviously you will get your weirdos and time-wasters but be genuine, dont pin too much hope on someone you haven't met and you might have a laugh or two!
I tried internet dating a few years back before I met my partner. I didn't meet the love of my life through there - I met him through my friend in the end - but I did go on a couple of dates with people who seemed reasonable and nobody had two heads or appeared to be a serial killer at all!!
Good luck!

I do not think that sort of place exists in Scotland, at least not the part I live in (North East - Aberdeen).

no. and though you shouldn't lower your standards, just realize people are human. you may do stuff that bugs the cr*p out of someone who would date you, except for that one little bad habit, like being over judgemental?

You could always get yourself a Yahoo360 page, put those details on it. Then start 'fishing' for others of a similar ilk..!
Go on a dating webbie, just stressing those criteria.

Dear David of Scotland,
There IS one place, but in order to get there you'll have to be very good, die, and believe there is a heaven!
Sincerely,
Rey
