If you chew TOO much sorbitol based gum (artificial sweetener) it can cause you to have diarrhoea and therefore not absorb nutrients so well.
The mouth stimulation by gum has been used by people who are trying to lose weight in an effort to reduce appetite. I'm not sure it is very effective.
Other than that, it's not really something to cause you to be underweight.

I chew gum everyday for most of the day. I can tell you it actually makes me more hungry then if I don't chew it. So no, it won't make you lose your appetite. This is a complete myth. It does however make you produce a bunch of saliva, since all gum is is rubber with a few extra things.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Some people who wish to lose weight will chew gum to occupy their mouth and give them something that simulates eating without adding more calories
Your aunt probably believes if you didn't have gum in your mouth, you might put more food there instead.

Chewing any type of gum sends a signal to your stomach to excrete digestive juices to the stomach even if there is nothing in it. This can eventually lead to ulcers in the stomach, which are painful, and conceivable to stomach cancer which is terminal, and leads to a substantial weight loss and eventually death. SO yes chewing gum can cause you to lose weight!
