First, write down his name, contact information, physical description, and an accurate account of your entire acquiantance with him. Give this to a friend or family member you trust.
Then tell him, politely, that you are not interested in pursuing the relationship further, but you wish him all the best. If he asks for a reason, just keep it vague and use I statement - "I don't feel a connection; I think we have different needs; I'm not in a good place to be dating right now."
If he threatens you or seems aggressive, warn him that you will not tolerate any abusive behavior, and if he attempts to contact you again you will get a restraining order on him immediately.
Include details of this encounter with your report, and be prepared to hand it over to the police if this guys stalks you, hurts you, threatens you, etc. Let your friend or family have a copy or know where to find it in case anything happens to you.

Hopefully if it's only been a few dates, he won't be invested enough to get angry when you polite refuse to see him again.

Same way you 'get rid' of any man. You have no control over whether he gets angry or not...did you go out with him only once? If so, then why, pray tell is there ANY need to 'get rid' of him?

Just decline another date should he call...and you can just say [if asked] "I really do thank you for the last date, but I'm not interested in going further.'

As an after thought, why are you ANTI giving the guy a chance?...because he has a criminal record? What did he do?...and if it was not rape, murder, molestation or something heinous, then he has paid his dues and deserves a chance.

I certainly hope your 'just went out with' didn't include sleeping with this guy...saying this because I read TOO much of these one -night- jump straight into bed things on this site. Cases of act first, react later, lament much later....shaking my head, here

The question is, how many dates have you gone on with him so far?
Being only one date, if he called me, emailed me or whatever, I would just respond politely that you are not really interested. Or you could blow off his calls. Guys usually get the hint if you are not calling them back. But honesty does not hurt either.
You could just say that, although you think he is a nice enough person, just say that you do not think that the two of you are a very good fit.
However, if you have been dating this guy for a while, you may owe more of an explanation.
You may want to find out about his criminal past, how recent was the crime, and have him talk to you about it.
I am for giving people a chance, and it depends on the reasoning he may give you. He may have been young when he committed the crimes. You also may want to weigh the severity of the crime.
I do not recommend pursuing a relationship with someone who is a criminal. If you only went on one date, just end it. You do not owe this gentleman anything. Many people go on one date and decide that its not going to work. Just be nice about it.
I am sure the guy is going to be mildly upset, but oh well. I am sure he will understand if you either just blow him off or you are honest.
Good luck and welcome to the world of dating!!

You state he was a criminal. So presently he's not. Do you know what his crime was? Don't jump to conclusions until you know more facts. How did you feel about the guy before you found out he was a criminal. We all make mistakes in our life but hopefully we are smart enough to fix our mistakes. Now find out if he fixed his or is he still robbing banks.

One of the lessons of adudlthood, is that you often can't do one thing without an undesirable side effect or consequence. How can I run five miles without working up a sweat? You can't. Often your good actions, that you should take, WILL hurt someone else or have other awkward side effects. That's just the price of doing business on this earth - but the sooner you realize that, the sooner you will feel free to go ahead and not agonize about how you could wash your hands without getting them wet. Wait till you have kids! Half the things you SHOULD do for them will antagonize them, and you love them - it's an adult's cross to bear.

THIS IS VERY SIMPLE.
Tell him you need to have more time in your life for a new job and/or school.

This is a good way to tell him its over. You might have to tell him about your job and school a few times for him to understand you can no longer be friends. After a few days...when he calls quit answering.

IF (AND MOST LIKELY WHEN) HE GETS ANNOYING:
Tell him...."I'm not a therapist", "I Dont Provide Free Therapy".

Repeat...Repeat...Repeat.

Make sure to give him some time (problably twice what you think you should give him) to remember you wont be together anymore. Once that (two times) amount of time you should give him is over use the Therapist line.

Overall objective: Breakup....Give Him the Shortest Amount of Time To Recoup...and If Hes a Weak Man...a way to end the annoyance.

is he a criminal now? or is this something in his past? everybody makes mistakes, at least once. I did, did a little time too. Told my wife before we even got serious about each other. Been married twenty years in June and happy as two clams. Don"t be judgmental, ask him, if he has any character at all, he won't get angry. what have you got to lose?>

Thats a good one. I would just be honest the next time he wants to see you and say that you aren't interested in dating him right now and you would rather learn more about him before going out together. If he gets angry, call the police.

Why worry about making him angry? If he didn't have the respect for you to tell you, then I'd say you don't owe him anything.

Unless, of course, you're scared he will do something to you. In that case ... I don't know what to tell you. I seem to be better at provoking people than anything.
