My 18 months old baby is hitting his new nany. She is kind and friendly with him. He had another nany since he was 2 weeks old, but now she is pregnant so we had to get another nany. And he doesn't hit to other people, just to his new nany. What could be the reason??

The old nany is still going to care my baby, but it is just for few hours a day. When I'm working, always there is people in my house (the grandparents of myu baby or the old nany) so it's imposible that the new nany could be scaring my baby.

Don't assume the worst { abuse } but if you think she's doing something bad to baby you need to get a "nanny - cam " and hide it to watch and see ! But it's just most likely he really , really misses the old nanny ! He formed a bond with her , much like a " second mom " if you will . Then all he knows is - she's gone ! It probably broke his little heart ! Maybe she could come over for a visit once in awhile just to help ease the transition . Think about how YOU would feel if YOU woke up one day and YOUR " WHOLE WORLD " was gone . He's more than likely crushed . I know he's very young but try to explain to him as best as you can ,however you think he could " get it " . But he won't just forget that easy. He will have to get used to the new nanny slowly and on his own terms. Maybe the old nanny could speak to the new one to try and keep him on same schedule or do his favorite activities, {if at all possible } Good luck !

Honestly, anything could be the reason. He is approaching his twos and that in itself could be one explanation--they do call them "terrible twos." Maybe it is even a game that they play together? In any case he needs to learn that it is wrong. You can do this by either holding his hand after he hits or before he hits and saying "no" very firmly and sternly or by simply putting him in time out. At his age he knows what is right or wrong and is beginning to test his boundaries. Make sure he learns them now when they are of the most importance.

Definately talk to the nanny though so you two are helping your child in the same manner. I.e. if you are putting him in timeout when you see it make sure that she does the same when you are not around.

He is the age toddlers start hitting. He may be "protesting" the new nanny, missing his old one. Or, testing the boundaries with her.

He is not used to her being there. He may miss the other nanny. He may be frustrated and not understand the new nanny's rules.

Maybe he doesn't like her or it could be that he's hitting those terrible twos, but whatever the reason you need to let him know that hitting is wrong.

More than likely, your son is angry because his former nanny is gone. He will adjust with time!
