Sure you can but I would make it into a dressing first. You could add garlic, onion, cider vinegar, a bit of honey, and salt and pepper. they mix it together....
or you could add a bit of mustard and make it like a potato salad dressing by adding in some celery, onion, and parsley.
or my very favorite is a honey poppyseed dressing
equal parts cider vinegar and honey, the white parts of 4 green onion, 1 tsp. poppy seeds, 1/4 tsp. dry mustard, and enough oil to emulsify or just add in enough mayo to make it the right consistency.
But yes many old fashion style or southern style pasta salads are made using mayo and salt and pepper, but in America we have gotten fancy as things like the food channel become more and more popular. Perhaps you mom used to make a tune noodle pasta salad that would use just mayo....but for added kick I like to cut the mayo with a vinegarette....it's just much nicer on the palette. Happy Cooking!

It's usually made with mayo and some spices anyways... For instance look on the back of a Suddenly Salad box... "Just Add Mayo"...

It's your choice, but I would go with a salad dressing for a little more flavor. If you only have mayo.. add some spices!

It's your food, do what you want to with it. I hate mayo in salads, but that doesn't mean that it's "wrong" if someone wants it. I put Chinese 5-spice powder on pork chops. It's weird, but it's my food and usually people who try it really like it.
Food should be nourishing and enjoyable, and to heck with what someone else thinks you should do with it. If you and the people you cook for like it that way, go for it.

Sure, add a little vinegar for a little zip otherwise it might be a little bland. Other variations, add a little garlic, ham or chicken or meat of choice, a little sweet pickle relish or add tomatos, peppers, cucumbers for a veggie salad.

If that is what you like, then go for it, however I would rather use Wishbone Italian salad dressing instead and leave the mayno out.
