To the north is Lebanon, to the North-East is Syria, to the East is Jordan and to the South-West lies Egypt.
"Palestine, Gaza" is a stupid answer. Even if we assume that Gaza/Palestine is a country (which as yet it is not), it is clearly not southwest of Israel. It would be west if anything, in that the entire Negev region is south of Gaza. If you connect Jerusalem to Cairo by a line, the line travels southwest. If you connect the center of each country by area, that line too is southwest. Both those lines between Israel and Gaza are nearly purely west. And once again, barring any political or ideological speculation, Gaza/Palestine is NOT a country. The Palestinian people have not declared independence in any region. Gaza may not be Israel, but it certainly is not a country of its own called Palestine. By that logic the land of Israel could be called the country of Israel well before Israel's declared independence in 1948. Gaza is currently a territory.
