i have heard that an addiction to chocolate could be a side effect of a magnesium deficiency. perhaps you should try a multivitamin or supplement with a decent amount of magnesium. sounds like you might also have a touch of depression. nobody likes to hear it but walking a few miles a day can do wonders. hope it's been helpful and good luck.

I am a chocoholic myself. I have been chocolate free for over 7 years now. To the point where if I do have it by accident I don't even recognize or like the taste. But I gave it up because I was just like you. I couldn't have enough and it made me miserable. It made me an awful mother, wife, friend and person. It wasn't worth the 30 seconds of flavor to put my family and friends through the misery of dealing with my emotional out breaks. I went cold turkey and it was hard for a good week and then it got easier but finally was gone for good after about 6 solid months of not having any. I finally realized it was an allergy that most of the women in my family have. Substituting carob after a month or so will help because it tastes like chocolate without the effects and it is actually nutritious. I hope you are willing to try to give it up, it really was the best thing I ever did for me and those that I love. There is really no benefit to having it!!

I have the same problem. What I do is buy less when I go food shopping it's not *too* hard. I always put a small portion on a napkin or something rather than carry the whole bar or box to whatever I'm doing. Then I let small bites dissolve in my mouth, no chewing, prolonging each bite as much as possible. These little "rules" work pretty well for me. Also I allow myself one day a week to just pig-out (bliss-out?) so I am comfortable eating less on other days 'cause I have my pig-out day to look forward to.
Hope it helps.

Chocolate is good for you. It is the fat and sugar that is bad for you. That being said, chocolate alters your brain chemistry in the same way that SSRI anti-depressants do. You might need some zoloft or something for other reasons in your life OTHER than chocolate!!!! You might be depressed.
Other than that, get dark cocoa powder. Mix it with splenda and skim milk for hot cocoa. Make it extra cocoa-ish to get the full hit without the sugar or fat. The darker the better for chocolate's health benefits. Another trick is to mix devil's food cake mix with a 15oz can of pumpkin. No other ingredients! Mix it up and make low fat choc muffins. Freeze them and take one out for breakfast every day. The other way is sugar free fat free fudgesickles in the freezer section of the grocery story. Yeah, chocolate addict...I've been there.

Why do you want to give up chocolate?
I think this is one addiction you can keep. Studies have shown that it is good for you and dark chocolate has anti-oxidants in it.
Better chocolate than other things!

its hard for me to answer this because right now im eating chocolate- its true- and what i suggest is to chew gum whenever you crave chocolate, or maybe go for a run or do some exercise to got your mind off of it, and that way if you do cave, you wont feel so bad about it
*just keep in mind that it's mostly mental and you can get through it- good luck :)

Have you tried St. Joseph's chocolate covered Wellbutrin for children? It satisfies your need for chocolate and it won't leave you depressed!
