These are big time signs that it's time to cut the drinking out. When you question if you are an alcoholic, chances are you are one. I used to bartend and I would hate seeing people get obliterated, it was so sad. I also know someone who drinks to the point of blacking out, and then she drives. She gets nasty and belligerent, drop dead drunk. And she is a very beautiful woman when she is sober, both inside and out. Her and her family refuse to do anything about it. Her son is 11 and is friends with my son. We were literally pregnant together.
Get help for yourself before you go too far, please.
I wish you all the best.

If you are asking and even thinking that it might be a problem, then yeah, maybe you should cut back. Think about if there is anything you are trying to escape by drinking so much. If you feel guilty about it, thats another sign that you might be overdoing it. Just take it easy when you go out, try to remember that you dont always need to get wasted to have a good time. Being in the company of your friends should be enough. A few drinks when you are out isnt a big deal, but when you need to ask about it, or are feeling bad about drinking too much, then i think it is time to cut back some. Try to figure out if you are trying to drown your sorrows or something. Talk to a friend. good luck.

Actually, yes. People who aren't problem drinkers don't ask this kind of question. Also, based on the other things--binging, blackouts, loss of control, guilt, people having to tell you what you did the night before, you are probably an alcoholic.
Try this. Don't drink. Not one drink. If you find that you are thinking about it a lot, rationalizing taking just one drink and then not being able to stop, you are definitely an alcoholic.
Either way, you should go to AA:

When you seek out Jehovah Witnesses. NO offense to that religion !!! It's known that they do a lot of door to door recruiting. During one of my drinking spells, I went knocking on my neighbor's door, in my night gown, with a bible question. Being a Witness, he came down, sat at the kitchen table with bible in hand & was explaining to me about my bible question... This was rather late, my B/F was playing in his dart tournemnt. He walked in the door, looked at us & said " I ain't even gonna ask " . The next morning my B/F told me what I had done what I had done, so I apologized to my neighbor & stopped drinking. I was then sure I had a BIG problem & to this day I rarely drink. You sound like what I used to do. I was a lucky person that was able to just stop drinking, most aren't as fortunate & need support. My advise to stop & seek support.

I have had friends that drank like you and they started blacking out. It's not a good thing at all. So why not just stop! Your really hurting yourself if you keep drinking! I can have a blast at a bar or even a party and I don't even "smell' the bottle! So see it's in you not in the alcohol!!

Once you start posing the question to yourself. Those without drinking (or drug) problems never even think of it. Blacking out is serious. Get into a program; get help of some kind. You can have fun without drinking.
