thats pretty much the whole question... is there a template in Word that you can fill in as you go for an outline or something of that nature? i haven't been able to find anything like what i need.

You can try the link below. It takes you to the Templates page of Microsofts Help for Word. If ouy don't find anything there, you can make your own templates using the FORMS option (to activate: right click on the menu bar where nothing is written. in the drop down menu, select Forms). this adds some buttons to your menu bars that let you make custom Templates. I use them all the time at work. Good Luck!
