Fasting is the obligatory part of Ramadan (as well as praying and avoiding sin of course).

I think the best "optional" thing to do is go to tareewih prayer and memorize some surahs!

It's a holy month to acknowledge God and to thank him for all the things he gives us. You should probably read Koran, fast (must!!), meet new people, and go to your local Mosque. Pray and celebrate! Be closer to God than ever before. Learn about the Koran and the messeges inside it. But you should be doing that all the time.

i'm not sure what you mean. supposedly there is not much you CAN do until after sunset, as the requirements are to fast all day, not to have any sexual relations, not smoke, etc. and i think that for the very devout, they don't do most of those things after sunset either. so, i guess sports. that's about it. meet with friends. support each other during the fasting. etc.

I know that each verse of the Quran that you read, its reward would be equivilant to the reading of the entire Quran.
