backfin... i say go for lump it is much better

You can get snowcrab meat canned on the shelves but it will be labeled as such. If it just says "crab" then it is any of hundreds of warm water crabs (warm water = less flavor). Keep in mind if its canned for the shelf the flavor has already been destroyed in canning the only advantage to snow crab canned is its a little sweeter adn tends to have more red color.

Now for the new trend in refrigerated canned crab meat (Phillips, mctompkins, and Blue star) we would be talking about blue swimming crabs very close to a domestic blue crab but larger.

If you can find it buy Phillips Claw meat (very flavorfull and actually less than the stuff on the shelves once you realize your not buying salt water. now for the diffrent grades lump. backfinn ect... check out

I take that back if it went through. I misread. I don't know what the off brands are selling in their cans. I think I read the lable once on one and it was not from waters I would think a good crab would grow. I believe Dungenous is the best. It's a wonderful pacific coast crab, and yes buy lump!
