They arent SUPPOSED to be sad, they love there cages, they feel safe and comfortable. I had to babysit my friends 2 birds for 3 months and they were adorable! But... I left the cage door open (There wings were cut so they couldnt fly) and they would be on top of there cage 24/7. And they even would climb down and walk around the kitchen and the house and follow my cat because they grew really attached with my cat, it was so cute! They used to repeat anything you say to them. MMMMAAAANNN NOW I MISS THEM, THANKS!

But anyways my point is, they arent sad at all in there cages especially if you show them attention. You know if yu have a bird, you MUST show them a whole hour of attention a day! Isnt that crazy? Yup but its true, I love animals so I didnt mind at all.

And ... its not true that no one sings or dances when there sad, I do! I dance when Im sad cause it relieves stress and you dont have to worry about anything while your doing it.

First, birds do not sing because they are happy. They sing to communicate with other birds. There are two main reasons they do this; first to attract a mate, second to declare their territory.

I raised canaries for a number of years. Male canaries are the only ones that sing. They don't sing all year, but only when breeding. They will sing better if they hear another canary singing. For this reason some people play tapes of canaries singing.

I am not saying that birds are not happy in their cages. Canaries have been bred for years to be domestic. They would not be able to survive for long in the wild. They do need the proper care and the largest possible cage for their health.

Birds sing more when they are content, secure and happy. Birds that are "domesticated" like cockatiles, parakeets and canary's feel secure in their cage. I have two parakeets that sing all the time. It's funny when we take one away from the cage the other will whistle real loud and wait for the other to answer, and they go back and forth. They will also whistle and get loud in response to whats going on in the room, us talking, the TV on, or music playing. One of my birds always chirps to one song my daughter plays from High School Musical.

My birds all love their cages. They sing in there because it's where they feel the safest, their food is in close reach, comfortable perches and fun toys. Why wouldn't they love it? My budgies don't come out but they won't leave the safety of their cage if I left the door open all day anyway. My tiel comes out everyday, he has human interaction with all four of his people, gets to exercise, share our food with us and play with his jungle gym, but he's never sad to go back to his cage, because he has a fair balance of both worlds.

Hi there. Sadness, anger, fear are all delusions we create in our minds from perceived threats. Perhaps, they perceive comfort and safety. Some are sad when their emotional needs are not met. This is what we need to prevent through trust and positive interaction. Two men were in prison looking out through the bars;one saw the mud,The other saw the stars. May you always see the stars in your life.

Birds feel happy where they know they're safe, most pet birds have lived in a cage all their life, so they don't know how to live any other way

Singing can be a sign of contentment but is also a natural way for them to try to contact other birs in their flock or mates.
