Hi this is the problem I had when planning my wedding last year for this year. I wanted to dive in and get my dress straight away , but the women in one shop kept telling me I was too early (this was march last year ) to buy yet but I could try on. The reason why they said I was to early is because every year they get new stock in and new dresses and the ones for the previous year are sold off, but I was like If I am trying dresses on now and I see one I like, then come december and the new dresses come in , what if I dont like any of them and the dress of my dreams then gets sold when I could of bought it when I found it that day. But the woman in the shop would left me buy just try on. I thought this was wrong, so I went to another shop and this was in April I think and she let me try on what dresses I wanted and there was no mention of it being too early, and I found the dress of my dreams which is the one I am getting, but the thing is the dresses take 6 months to come any ways, so if I had gone in December I would of had to wait till a few months before my wedding for it to arrive and I would of panicked because it would of been to close. So im glad I went to the shop I did, because at the end of the day, you want to beable to know that your dress is in the shop, so that if your buying Items like the veil, tiara, shoes, etc you want to beable to go and see it to match things up.

Im glad I didnt wait until December last year to look for one as Ive looked in the shops now as apart from my dress, I dont like no other.

I would leave your dress for about a year, and get all the rest of the plans sorted out like your colour theme and what colour you want your bridemaids etc and the decoration of the venue etc. There is no harm in looking as you might want a few ideas and the people in the bridal shops are always there if you need help. I would start trying on dress now, and write the number down of your favourite ones as they all have numbers and then try on some next year and then see which one is your dream dress. If its one of the ones you tried on this year then you have the code and even if they sell out they might be able to reorder it for you. Or you could buy now if you find one you really fall in love with and then thats one out of the way..

Its up to you but as Im inpatient i didnt want to be trying on a dress that I fall in love with a year before the wedding and not buy it as it I might of not been able to get it again,

By the way you dont have the dresses fitted to your body until a few month before the wedding, so dont worry that in a few years time if you do find a dress now, it wont fit you or will fit you as, a month to a few weeks before the wedding it will get fitted to your body so you wont have any worrys.

Hiya- Congratulations!! I wouldnt be too hasty in picking your dress- I am getting married in 8 weeks and have been planning for 2 years- i originally saw a dress and put down a deposit and three months later on my first fitting i fell in love with another dress in the same shop!! They let me transfer over to the new dress however think what would happen if you had paid for your first pick and then saw another you liked more?! i cried when i saw the second (and that which i will be wearing) dress as i loved it that much. Take your time, make a scrap book of dress shapes and styles that you like. You only have to have your dress ordered 16 weeks before the wedding to allow them time to make it and alter it.

Good luck!!

xx

No i don't think so my friend is also getting married 2009 and she bought her dress a few weeks ago , you take the dress in 5 sizes but can only take it out 2 so i was told when buying mine! If you see 1 you really like go for it or you could regret it nearer the time.

I'd say yes because your dress will already be 2 years old by then and there might be new styles out there that you'll like just as well if not more!

I know how hared it is to be engaged and not able to do any serious planning! We're getting married in Feb 08, but can't pin down a date because its a destination wedding and we need to wait for the airlines to release their stuff first! Rrrrr, it's frustrating!

I know you are really excited about getting married but don't rush things. anything can happen between now and then. You might take weight, you might lose weight, etc. anyway by 09 your wedding dress would have become ancient history. The right time to buy your wedding dress is 2-3 months prior to your wedding.

Congratulations, by the way

I got my dress last year and I'm getting married in October this year.

I would strongly recommend that you don't follow the trend and latest fashions too much. A dress that's 'in' now will not be say next year and will look daft. Go for a dress that is very simple off the shoulder style which will look classy and beautiful even in years to come.

Good Luck xx

Unless you find the dress of your dreams like a Vera Wang for $100.00 then I would wait. You do have plenty of time to look and see what you like and get the best price for it. So don't be afraid to look, just don't spend the cash right away unless your positive it's the 100% ONE!

I bought my dress a little to early... it was a tough call because I saved a lot of cash but now I hate going into the stores (doing bridemaids dress now) and seeing all the new dresses.... now I am wondering... could I have found a prettier one or a different one...

Just something you may not have thought about- - People get their gowns preserved, because they tend to turn yellow after time. I'm sure it would have to be longer than what you are talking about, but it would suck if your dress had a light yellow tint come your wedding day------other than that, if you don't fluctuate very much when it comes to weight, then you should be fine. However, only do it if you found your dream dress and if it is the one- Supposedly you will know! I am in the process of finding my perfect wedding dress- everyone is telling me it is too early, but oh well (My wedding is going to be in about a year).

Way too early. you should buy your dress maybe 1-25 months before the wedding if you're buying off the rack and having it altered. If your having one custom made give the seamstress about 4 months, but not 2 years.

Definitely to early.
You may change in body shape and size in the next two years!! You and your partner may split up! (I seriously hope you dont)
You may find another one you love more!...dress that is!

I bought my first wedding dress 7 months before I got married and a month before the wedding, hated it more than anything!! I bought another one which looking at 27 years and a 2nd marriage later, I hate more than the 1st one!!!
