your teenage years/ young adulthood? I guess, where you're essentially standing at the border line, with one foot into adulthood, and the search for self and independence, and the other in childhood, being gerenally dependent on others for certain higher level financial needs, as well as emotional support to a certain level.

adolescence, the awkward years in a person's life when you don't really know what you are, a child or an adult. You have more rights, like driving, etc. but you can't vote and are still a minor.
