Sometimes a fake OWL or two, perched on the roof or nearby tree may work. (may depend on type of birds)
You may have noticed these type of decoys on business rooftops, or gas station roof tops etc.

If they already have a nest let them stay there until the younger birds are ready to leave home, after that the parents will probably leave. Once that's done try putting up some chicken-wire to cover the spot that they keep nesting in. If you want the best advice try calling a wild life rescue , they should be able to give you some good answers.

I had a pigeon problem until a year ago (alsted two years), when I paid someone $700 to put spike strips, remove two nests, clean the roof, clean the side of the house that was COVERED in bird crap and spray coyote urine on the roof (an apparent deterrent). Anyhow, it hurt to spend that money, but it was ABSOLUTELY worth it now that I see the still clean house and the pigeons moved to a neighbor and have gotten even more gross and left a larger mess.

Personally, I have moved a mourning dove nest to a nearby tree and they actually followed the nest, changed it up a bit and went on as usual. I've also done this with a sparrow nest. Good luck and be careful Have a more peaceful night.

Most of the garden stores sell artificial owls that scare he birds away.
Attach one to straightened coat hanger and duct tape it to your chiminey.
Also if you have tree limbs overhanging your house. The limbs should be removed to prevent the birds from landing there and also to prevent storm damage to your house.

What kind of birds are they? People in our neighborhood put up lines of wire spikes or netting to keep the birds out of the eaves and to prevent them from nesting. I have also seen people put up big (fake) owls to scare other birds away. I do not recommend poisoning them -- it's not very nice and you'll end up with dead birds smelling up your roof.

Go buy realistic looking rubber snakes, also see if they have and life sized owls that you can mount on roof and IF you can afford one get a motion activated owl that moves its head when it senses movement and hoots Scares the hel* out of birds

Put fake snakes up there. I don't know why, but my grandparents did this and the birds didn't want anything to do with them.♥
