Circuit training is done when you have little or no rest in between sets of your exercise regimen. Also you go with high reps and a more controlled pace while executing them, also you move down the list of the exercises until you are done with it, this would be one set. Example:

Bench Press
Lateral Raise
Tricep Extention
Alternating Curl
Squat
Lateral Pulldown
each exercise would have a set of 4 and a rep number of 15-20, with little or no rest in between sets, basically you go straight from one exercise to the next without stopping except for the time it takes for you to start the next exercise.

You start with Bench Press, and when you finish the one set for that, you move on to the Lateral Raise, then to the Triceps Extention, and so forth. When you have completed the whole list one time, that is one set. You then go right back to the first exercise and repeat.

just tell them what your routine is.

A series of excercises with little or no rest 10-30 seconds in between where you do one set of each excercise then move on to the next one. Then once you have completed one of each excercise you take a break, usually 1-3 min, depending on how many excersises you have included in your circuit, then you do another one. Then take a rest for 1-3 min, etc.

you should hit every major body part and a circuit should have no less than 8 excercises. Ideally they should switch to different unrelated parts of the body so you can get more out of it and aren't excercising an already exhausted part for two excercises in a row.

Its easiest if you write it on a paper for an example to explain.
