When I fed my cat this morning I noticed that one of his eyes was crusted shut and it looked like tears leaking from it. I got a soft baby face cloth and wet it with warm water so I could clean his eye but as soon as the cloth got close to his face he freaked out and ran under my bed. What is wrong with his eye and what should I do about it?

It is most likely an abscess. I worked at an animal hospital for 2 years and this is common. It could have started out as a very small scratch or open wound and then the fluid that generally drains, does not drain and forms a swollen bulge. It is treated with antibiotics- it will be painful for the cat. If you can get him to calm down, a warm compress is a good idea. Taking him to a vet is the best idea if you ask me, but not everyone has a ton of money. Hang in there, hope he gets better!

GO TO THE VET, your cat has the equivalent of PINK EYE, or an upper respiratory infection. either way an antibiotic will be needed to help it. ALSO they should do a test where they dye the eye and look for a scratch on the eye. Also it is contagious to other cats so be careful and let your vet know if you have more than one cat/pet.

If he freaked out while you were attempting to clean his eye, that can only mean that he is experienceing pain in that ee. Best take your kitty to a vet and have the problem properly diagnosed and treated becuase I do not think it is a mere case of allergy.

I would definitely get him into the vet. One of my friend's cats actually has a form of herpes (not contagious to people) and it causes the same thing.

Take him to the vet, it could be herpes, chlamydia or some other form of cat flu.
