horgurce, that is bs. sportbike riders do it all the time all over the country. open the throttle, take an exit, hide. Cops don't have the manpower or willingness to put a helicopter on you or block off the freeway on 30 seconds notice. this guy ran, got it on video, and put it on youtube.

loco_tech85, why dont you just admit that people get away all the time? On a bike it is easy to move the plate to a strange place (on top of the swingarm facing upwards, on the side of the bike) or to leave it under the tail, but bend it up at a sharp enough angle that it is impossible to read when someone is sitting on the bike and compressing the suspension.

I'm sure it doesn't make Officers very happy. I asked a cop about it once and he said most of his unit won't even bother if a sports bike or something flys by over 130MPH because of a couple reasons.

1. Most of the squad cars can't go faster than those bikes to catch up.
2. If the cop car is stopped and the bike goes by then the time it takes for them to pull and catch up just wont happen.

The officers best bet is to try and capture the plate on video which Im not sure will capture it or not idk what the fps or quality the cam is. Some areas have aircraft which will most likely find the vehicle. They could radio it when and try to cut the biker off but I'm not sure how effective that is if the biker just gets off the next exit and goes home before other units get to that general area since most officers don't know where the biker is going.

It's funny that you should ask this question, I just finished dealing with this very same type of case that started in December of 2004 and I finally put the handcuffs on the driver in December of 2006.

It annoys me that people have the audacity to run from the police and not accept the consequences for their actions, and it makes me feel sorry for society on a whole. This very same person, would not hesitate to leave the scene of an accident involving anyone's family if they could.

However, my annoyance is only slight because, my Police vehicle is equipped with a camera which I utilize to capture the image of the license plate of the vehicle I am attempting to pull over. I also "run" the plate # in the computer before pulling the car over (so I already know if the car is stolen or not).

If a person is successful in getting away from me (very slim odds already & the car isn't reported stolen), then I simply take the license plate # back to the stationhouse and fill out a complaint report against the vehicle. Once that's done, I contact the insurance company and advise them of the charges being levied against their insured vehicle.

I then visit the home of the registered owner and advise them of the infractions/charges involving their vehicle and ask for their cooperation in identifying the driver @ the time/place that I saw them & lost them. Most people do not cooperate.

I then do 1 of 2 things, either a) wait a day or 2 to see if they report the car stolen (this is the usual course of action - which is very foolish) or b) I go to the home with a tow truck and simply impound the vehicle for being used in the commission of a crime.

If A happens, then the person reporting the crime gets arrested for "Filing a False Report" & "Hindering Prosecution" and then I proceed to B anyway. If B happens right out, then the vehicle is held in Police Custody as evidence. If the registered owner doesn't reveal the identity of the driver, then the vehicle gets forfeited.

1 way or another I will find the driver and justice will be served.

Sounds like you're rubbing it in the police's face that your sport bike can outrun a police car and you can get away with it? Odds are that eventually something will catch up with you (a sign, a pole, broadside of a truck...etc).
How do I feel? There's always tomorrow (or the things listed above). Be safe.

Doesn't really bother me when they run. 33% of the time they get away, 33% of the time they get caught, and 34 % of the time they go splat. That's a 67% chance of a positive outcome for the good guys. Why would that bother anybody?

Oh and I almost forgot , running= free a-s-s whipping if caught. It's all about the prey drive. Can't fight nature. A rabbit is gonna run and the dogs are gonna chase him and chew him up if they catch him.

They don't get away. Contrary to popular belief you cant out run a radio. you might prolong it but you will be apprehended. Also you've added flight and resisting arrest to the charges.
