It would make my life a lot easier if I could just chop large amounts of veg and store them in the freezer to chuck in a curry or stew.
What veg can and cant I do this to, also how long will they keep in there?

yeah easily - make up stew packs of root veg except potatoes and shove in the freezer - do it all the time - lasts all winter and saves loads of time when u want to make a stew

if u are doing green veg though like brocolli for the freezer u have to blanch them first - or u will lose the green colour - if u dont know its putting them in boiling hot water for a couple of minutes before plunge them in freezing water to seal the green

go for it

When freezing vegetables it is better to prepare them by blanching. This is the process of putting fresh vegetables in to boiling water for 1 minute. Then place them straight in to cold running water to cool them down. They retain colour and most of thier vitamins and minerals this way. After this they can be put in to suitable freezer bags and frozen.
Lakeland plastics have an excellent supply of freezer bags and ties. Very reasonable prices and availabe to buy online.

Root veg should be OK - carrots, swede, parsnips, potatoes etc.
When I do stews I use frozen veg - 99p for a kilo from tesco. Its so easy to just chuck a handful in. Makes about 20 stews/chillis/casseroles.

Sure. You can freeze about any except leafy vegetables(they are mussy when thawed). Put them in a zip-lock freezer bag and they will last for several months. I also buy ground beef in bulk, brown it all, drain well and put it into bags and freeze. Makes it sooo handy to put in chili, soups, etc.

If you have your own garden, this is perfectly acceptable!

However, if you are buying fresh vegetables to chop and freeze, it would be cheaper (and equally as nutritious) to buy them from your grocer already frozen.

Tomatoes are probably the only fresh vegetable that does not freeze well.

If you are making stew, keep them as long as you want.

most things can be stored in the freezer for up to 3months....it may be better to cook the veg and let it cool before you freeze it tho, andd if you were to do that then you can do anything...good luck
