This article is all about how good it is for Latin America, but how about how bad it is for the US?
What do you think?

art-raid - absolutely not. If you are legally here, that is your right. But in counting the costs of illegal immigration and projecting future costs of any legalization, this imbalance needs to be weighed. US workers tend to keep the money in our society.

Of course it's a big win for Latin America, and a detriment to the United States. This is, unless you're a politician I guess. I think they overplayed the raids though, I wouldn't say the US has really cracked down on illegal immigration.

In 2006, Latin American migrants sent home $62 billion, with Mexicans sending the largest share $23 billion.
There is nothing wrong with legal Americans sending money back to their family's in another land. This money has already had the taxes paid on it. But when the millions of illegal aliens send money back it had not been taxed,by the government. When you are legal you pay taxes and Uncle Sam gets his share. Where the fault lies is in the illegal aliens using all the services of the USA but not paying their share . They don't pay for schools, hospitals, prisons, infrastructure entitlements and assistance they use while living and working here illegally.
I can not see any benefit to the USA from this "feeding" of Latin America.

This will only happen if we the American people let these bunch of inequality in our government go through their quest of giving the 12 + millions of illegal aliens in our country amnesty. All they worrying about is giving the illegals amnesty and do nothing with our open border. People like Ted Kennedy, John McCain and others are to blame for all of this. Not only the amount of money escaping from the USA to Mexico and Latin America in remittances but in addition open borders so they could keep on crossing in to the USA and be able to get hire by our companies. We the American people have to stop this government because if we don't our family and future families will suffer the consequences of this stupidity. Do you think we the American people and our economy could withstand that push ? I don't think so !!

Still, Terry called remittances a "very effective poverty reduction program" that keeps 8 to 10 million Latin American families above the poverty line.
LOL.....we are already funding them through other government programs and then to think this is an "effective poverty reduction program" for them as well. While our poverty is increasing and everything else on a major decline. Just shows all the funding the government is sending there isn't getting to the people who need it.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul. Temporary fix...not a solution to the problem.

What is wrong sending your hard earn money to Latin America. There are American Citizens and Legal Residents that are sending money to Latin America. Should we do away with International Money Transfer;because there are Asians, Europeans and Middle Easterns send money. Americans Company are making billions by the transfer. There even talk about taxes by sending to Latin America. But this tax must be apply to all countries and USA. Lawyers are lining up if they only apply tax to Latin America
It is funny that articles that state they know exactly where these remittances come from very irreponsisble reporting.

it sounds like our govt isn't doing their job to keep illegals out. it also sounds like all of Latin America is stealing from us so their country will be rich. our govt will not be happy until this country is brought down to the ground.
