I own several nice Pfluegers Purists and a few Garcias. I need 3 more really reliable baitcasters.

My baitcasters get used 100's of hours use a year. I've had them all and for the money, you can't beat the Ambassadors from Garcia. They are priced very well, they are durable and they last. The only thing about them is their round shape can take a little getting used to, especially if you're going to be doing a lot of flipping or pitching. I haven't tried the low profile ones yet. The didn't get good reviews when they first hit the market a couple years ago. They just didn't fee durable in my hand.

Shimano's are excellent as well, but the good ones are going be in the $300 range.

Be cautious with Quantum. I've owned four of them, all of them the Acurist VanDam models. Frankly they don't hold up. After a couple season the bearrings get rough and the reels lose their smooth castings. I've also had one break a gear and one the drag failed on it. I really wanted to like them to. Quantum is Zebco's premium brand.. that sort of says something.

Pfluger has some nice reels out there as well. I've had a couple go bad with the same sorts of trouble I had with the Quantums.. just not with every reel. Yet.

Abu Garcia Revo-S. For $99 it has the best bearings and drag system of any reel in that price range. Also has a wide lightweight spool making it easy to cast. Low profile fits into your hand really nice. I bought the STX-HS model and just love it. Tackletour.com did an article about this reel.

1. You want to look for a top name brand these will hold up longer.

2. At least 6 ball bearings (these keep it smooth and it will last longer).

3. For bass get at least 5.1:1 gear ratio (this will allow you to do multiple different types of reeling in baits).

4. Get one with a dual braking system (this allows you to adust thebrakes to the distance you want or wait of lure so you wont get a crows nest).

5. look for one with an all metal frame if your not shure ask the salesmen they should know.

Shimano bait casting reel. It has a long life expectancy with stainless steel ball bearings, outstanding casting abilities and the best drag on the market.

I would go onto IN-fisherman or north american fisherman websites and see how they rate them... I myself don't use a baitcaster as I find the line gets too messed up... I have always used spinning reels and have never had a problem

I like the new pinnacles they have at wal mart...I was there the other day and noticed the. The pricey one is only 59 bucks....I believe they're just the pinnacle branded cabelas reel if i'm not mistaken.

Ambassador makes great bait casting reels. I own one that's as old as I am that I got from my grandfather. It's by far the best reel I own.

Well my personal favorites are Abu Garcia because if you take care of them they will last. I also agree with Quantum too well made and built to last.
