Addiction is something very difficult to grasp. Alcoholics believe they are never 'cured' of their addiction, but need to maintain their sobriety.
I have a grandmother who smoked for 40 years. She hasn't had a cigarette in over 3 years, but tells me she still gets awful cravings when she is around a smoking person.
Addiction is both mental and bio-chemical. Will power will sometimes not finish the job. Seek advice on your specific addiction.

Is eating chocolate a habit or an addiction.?
I eat chocolate every day, mainly in the evening when reading, and i would now enjoy reading less if i didn´t have that bar beside me.
As to how long, i would say it depends on the person and the reason for the habit.

I understood that it takes 21 times for something to change. Therefore, it depends on how often you eat chocolate - if it's every day then it will be 21 days, if it's once a week it will be 21 weeks....
