Okay, I am going to try to list as many doctors as I can:
Pediatrician, Dermatologist, Cosmetic Surgeon, Dentist, Orthodontist, Endodontist, Phsycologist, Neurologist, Cardiologist, Podiatrist, Nurse, Those doctors that only do babies, Any kind of specialist, really. Surf the net and try to see what profession would best fit you and your needs.

You don't need to know what type of doctor to be now, and I would go so far as to say that you CAN'T know now.

You need to get into med school and go through some clinical rotations. You'll find what you like and what you don't like, and by the time you need to apply for a residency position, you'll know what you want to be.

I went into med school thinking I would be a pediatrician or a family doctor, but ended up as an anesthesiologist. I'd rather be poked in the eye with a stick than have to listen to screaming babies all day, so it's a good thing I didn't choose pediatrics. I "un-chose" it during my pediatrics rotation.

You'll find your place in the world. When you find the group of people that you fit in with, you will have found your specialty. You can't know it now.

Best of luck to you. (Don't forget to consider anesthesiology!)

There are just about as many types of doctors as there are main parts of the human body. It depends upon what you think you would be most interested in and skilled at. Many of the specialized fields require performing surgery so if you use that as a factor, pro or con, that would narrow the field considerably.

A GP can practice medicine anywhere, small town or metropolitan area. A specialist is somewhat limited to a metropolitan area because of the number of patients who would need his particular field of expertise.

You could look at the American Board of Medical Specialties' website, but that would be premature. Get some clinical experience in your 3rd year of medical school and then decide. You have enough more immediate worries now.

There are hundreds of types of doctors--internists, cardiologists, radiologists, oncologists, hematologists, pathologists, gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, clinical pharmacologists, pulmonologists, psychiatrists, geriatricians, osteopaths, dermatologists, etc, etc, etc.

It might be easier to answer your question if you post what type of doctor you are looking for.
