This makes no sense to me at all. "Believe me", or "I believe you" makes sense, but "Believe you me?" What the F??? I know it says to believe the person whe said it, but why not just say "believe me"???

And what is the plural form of "believe you me"? Is it "believe they us"???

For those of you who use this term, please expain to me why you have to add the "you" in there. Or maybe you just say it without thinking about it or even though you know it makes no sense whatsoever.

I think whoever invented this phrase was dropped on his or her head as a baby and was speaking incoherently after that, lol.

It is older english (couple hundred years old) means "You should believe me" some of these expressions last forever.

Example: A stitch in time saves nine, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, a penny saved is a penny earned.

to people unaccustomed to certain colloquial phrases, I am sure many of them make little sense. You might try being more tolerant of the cultural upbringing of others, I'll wager you have phrases that you use that would make no sense to someone not raised as you were.

You have to be a REDNECK to understand the term "believe you me". i am a redneck from way back so it would not do me any good to explain you . you have to speak redneck to talk to a hillbilly redneck. we have language of our own, believe you me. i had to write my husband a hillbilly dictionary when we was dating so he could understand what i was saying.. i have noticed lately he has begun to speak a little redneck himself.. he don't like either..
