There is a miserable old man that works the overnight shift at my job. I work his two days off and he always has something to complain about me. He leaves my work on a table, for everyone to see, and then has someone else tell me what he said I did wrong. I also take pride in keeping my supplies filled up for everyone to use (and refill when necessary), but after he's done, there are all empty containers and he never has bothered to fill them.. it really bothers me. What should I do? I never see him to confront him.

I would recommend speaking with a superior at the job. Inform them of what he is doing ie talking about mistakes to other co-workers and not refilling supplies. If he has a complaint regarding your work, it should be made to the supervisor only, not other co-workers. By talking to a boss, they can address this cranky old man about his misconduct concerning his position. Also if you have future complaints, it will be documented. Lastly, do not give it back to him as suggested. Though revenge is sweet, he could turn it back on you and complain to YOUR supervisor. Then you would be in trouble, not him. Good Luck!

Can you come up with a task lisiting that has to be done in each shift. You could turn it into a suggestion and get credit for fixing a problem. It could list the tasks that each person needs to do before the end of their shift and one of the things could be "Refill office supplies" When you present the idea to your boss explain why you thought of the idea!

That's tough. Sounds like he is afraid that you are doing just a little bit too well there. You need to confront him and ask him what you need to do to make your work better (I suspect your work is far superior but listen to what he has to say) He may just be ensuring that you don't take his job (and yes it is really childish of him). Of course you may be doing shoddy work, while thinking you are doing an excellent job, so be prepared to be harshly criticized. (because I don't think that he is someone who could give constructive criticism based on what you have said). You also may want to talk to your manager about what this guy is doing. It may fall under the harrassment guidelines of the company..

The things you do, you do them for who? you or him? I been in that situation you mentioned and I kept doing those things because one, it was my job and two, and more important, that's just who and how I am. Yeah, It is annoying when someone complains non stop and never knows how to say thank you, but don't let their chip on their shoulder become yours too. That is my take.

You said it miserable.. Just continue to do your job. If you feel the need go to a person in management and let them see how he doesn't fill the stuff for you..

if it is affecting your work or the company then technically you can complain to your supervisor. if you dont want the hassle then you have to confront him and tell him. also it would be nice to ask around and see if anyone has the same complains or just complains about him.

Send him an email. That way, it's also documented in writing.
