I am almost in tears. I have been having some digestive issues and bad bad bad canker sores for as long as I can remember.

Today I went to a naturopath. I went into the office feeling very optomistic and excited. I left in tears. The naturopath asked about my symptoms and did an exam. Then he gave me a list of tests he recommends. He recommended:
food sensitivity testing ($80.00)
food allergy test ($300.00)
comprehensive disgestive stool analysis ($450.00)
neurotransmitter test ($290.00)

I can't afford that! That's just crazy. I really really really need relief of these symptoms but now I don't know what to do. Any words of wisdom?

these symptoms sound very familiar to me up until one year ago I was suffering about the same problems but there are other symtoms that you may be over looking Are you having problems with bad breath? how about problems with your teeth? you may want to have a doc. check you out for GERD and IBS these two singaly can cause alot of problems and together can fell like............ well you know. try tums or rolaids the only problem with that it usually takes alot of them I have found that a simple perscription for gerd has gotten rid of all of these problems and more i am not takeing anything fo rthe IBS becouse i found out once the gerd was under controll all of my digestive problems went away

Naturopathy is a sketchy discipline. Some of it makes sense, others don't, and the science behind it is not proper science, with double-blind studies and the like. In some cases, you can send the same samples to different 'labs' and end up with different answers.

You can do your own elimination diet for food problems. Look that up online or at the library, and it's tough (you start eating only rice, pears and lamb for a while, and then add foods in very specific, slow ways), it's way cheaper than getting pseudo-scientific poo studies done.

Go to the Health Department and talk to a Neutritionist.
That should be free or at a low. low cost. It's free in my State.

That may help you figure out healthy eating habbits.
& it may help to stop or minimize your problems.

Do this before you spend all that money.

no doctor can make a decent diagnosis without running tests on various systems to find out possible causes. They are not miracle workers, they are just better educated than most. If you want miracles suggest you talk to a priest.

If I were as miserable as you say you are, then I would do whatever I had to to find out what's wrong. Get a second opinion.
