I prefer It's Showtime tearless kitten shampoo but in a pinch use baby shampoo, just a little. If you really need something in a hurry, use just a drop of Dawn dishwash. Whatever you use, rinse it out really well. Don't get it in the kittens eyes or ears, I would avoid the face and just use a damp cloth to wipe there.

I don't recommend bathing small kittens but have done it. You could try just wiping it over with a warm face cloth. Just use a little soap in the water and ring it out then wipe the kitten well starting at the face and working back to the bum.

You could use some baby talcum powder, rub it into the fur (not near the face and be careful it doesn't breathe it in) and just brush it out thoroughly, repeat it until the kitten is clean and then wipe it over with a damp cloth.

A safer alternative is a bran bath, you only need about half a cup. Put it in the oven to heat it, allow it to cool so it doesn't burn the kit then rub it through the fur against the growth and brush it out.

None of the above!!

You need a shampoo specifically designed for cats AND kittens. Cats have very thin, very delicate skin, which easily absorbs chemicals. Plus, they lick themselves, so any residues you leave behind will be ingested. It's VERY important that you only use kitten-safe shampoo for her. Any human or dog products could be toxic to her. And don't use a kitten safe flea shampoo unless she actually has fleas, try to find the most gentle kitten shampoo you can, and make sure you rinse her very well.

You may need 2 pairs of hands for this job, kittens squirm and scratch when being bathed. Trim her nails before the bath, and if she freaks out, gently grab the back of her neck where the skin is loose and hold her by it. It won't hurt her at all, it actually releases endorphins and soothes her. Mothers carry their kittens by the scruff of the neck, and the endorphins assure that the kittens don't struggle or make noise during the move. People perceive it as being a cruel way to hold a cat, but it's actually very humane.

Also, try to wipe the face off with a wet cloth and avoid getting any shampoo near the face or ears.

Good luck!

By all means PLEASE, DO NOT USE HUMAN SHAMPOO ON YOUR PET! Sorry to have yelled. Human shampoo dries the skin and is harsh for pets, especially kittens and puppies.

Use a cat shampoo, cut to half or quarter strength. Rinse very well.

PLEASE, DO NOT USE FLEA SHAMPOO on a kitten. Way too harsh and the chemicals that kill the fleas may harm the kitten, actually making them sick.

Also, do not use too hot of water. Keep it just a bit warmer than room temperature, kind of like baby bottle milk. Kitten's skin can't handle the temperatures that our skin does in a shower or bath. You'll scald them.

You should not use soaps or shampoos made for humans on any dog or cat. They are the wrong pH and can lead to skin problems.
If the kitten is too young for a flea shampoo, you can use a very diluted - just enough to foam up - solution of Joy dishwashing liquid (the lemon will help kill fleas).
The best thing to use, once they are old enough, is a commercial pet shampoo made for cats.

i used to give my cat baths all the time, i used tearless baby shampoo (recommended by the vet, so much cheaper than kitten shampoo!!)
they don't like to be immersed, use a hand-held nozzle ideally, with slightly warm water. start at the head, avoid getting water in ears, and work toward the tail. it helps if you can keep one hand under their chest. use a damp washcloth for the face. rinse well!! do it in an enclosed area so they can't escape & get the whole house wet, and have a dry towel ready to wrap & dry kitty with. if they don't freak out about the noise you can blow dry them with a hair drier on low. don't let them get drafty until they're completely dry.
good luck!!

I use Johnson & Johnson's lavendar bath for babies (or the walmart brand) I use it all the time with my kittens and it is gentile on skin and smells so good. I would not use the dog flea shampoo the kitten is too young for that and be carefull with human shampoo that can dry out their skin

please do not use anything that is not specified safe for kitten use. do not use human shampoos or soaps on kittens too. please get a suitable shampoo from the pet store for kittens which most likely has a ''no tears'' wording on it to tell you that it is gentle enough for use on kittens. use warm water while bathing and do not put the kitten in a tub full of water, it might drown so i advice you to use a shower instead.

Dish soap - Really. Like Dawn. Wildlife rescue people have been using it for years and years. It is gentle on the animals and cuts grease, etc. I have been using it on my pets for years. Just a few drops does wonders. Gets them clean, smells great, rinses off well.
