Honestly, i am curious what you associate that word with. It is set to focus on current day "Christians" and their culture. This is a general question and does not discriminate against anyone.
Personally, I associate it with negative connotation...but that is simply because of what many have done compared to the few. Many have harmed the image of Christianity through such things as: Blind Faith ( accepting without question), acceptance because its popular, Ignorance internally (they don't comprehend the teachings, or they apply them incorrectly to current times), Outward ignorance (not accepting other cultures, simply because "only we can be right"), and many other things that deal with ignorance and discrimination. Such as discriminating against certain people due to race, orientation, etc.
I realize that many are not this way. However these are the views that are constant in mainstream society today, thus that is how i perceive the term. But, this is simply one viewpoint to have.

However i encourage answers whether ignorant or educated...this almost a poll with an outlet for creative reasoning.

I get a picture of many of the people I've known, who use it as some sort of magic word that means "I am good so you can't pick on me"... but also of little old ladies putting out pots of macaroni dishes and cookies at a church "potluck"... I can see where you get your idea of Christianity... It is frequently the loudest of the group who are the most heard. Those are usually the most annoying and least able to actually represent the group as a whole. True? Just look at some group you may be a part of and look at how it may be viewed... If it's seen as bad, it's probably because of the loudmouths, right? Republicans have a bad name because of the extremists, just like Democrats do. Muslims have a bad name for the same reason. This is always true except in cases where the group itself is about hate. I don't know where those people who choose who to love went to church growing up. I was raised to believe that all people are deserving of love, NO MATTER WHAT and no person is loved by God more than another.... Christ had dinner with a tax collector instead of the preachers, hung out with criminals and lepers... And I can see why, those self-reighteous people are pains in the A$$....

Christian to me I think of Jesus Christ=love and salvation.
Why do non christians ASSUME we christians have blind faith. I don't! I've had many of the same questions you have had and more! I'm a researcher. I'm tenacious. I have had many science questions that have been answered by creationism. And I also have a science degree.
And you think being a Christian is popular? Announce it at work you are a born again christian and see what happens.
I do comprehend the teachings of Jesus Christ.
And many percecute christian's soley because we believe what Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except through me" He is the only way (as christians say) to God/ heaven/ salvation.
I'd never discriminate against a person's race ever! And i would love the rest....since I also am a sinner.
And you say, "However these are the views that are constant in mainstream society today, " This is not the Christianity I see. Not at all-you ASSUME and listen to what the non christians tell you christians say and do.

I associate it much more with the word "Christianity", because "Christians" are individuals with different approaches, that I have to know to give an opinion.
But yes, for me the first impression I have about the word Christianity is about wars, greed and the mental castration of many, who suffer many times unnecessary guilt. I also think that also this varies on the kind of church, some churches are really fundamentalists and their members very judgemental of others that have not their own opinion, as if "their" truth is the "only" truth.

Constantine
the pushers who want to make others believe the way they do, or be removed by force and violence = "christian soldiers"
the ones most known for the use of beliefs to abuse and harm others abusing a guy named Jesus and hiding the fact Paul who murdered Jews for a living created it after being shunned by the High Priest and Sadduccee sect who was given the power by the Romans ( a lot like the modern Repubs who get all the press for religious right minority who claim to speak for all)
elitist, closed minded, exclusive and only concerned with benefiting self or thier group and to hell with the rest as Rev 19 says

Mainstream society associates the word "Christian" with the Catholic faith. I associate it with "followers of Christ." So, to me, "christian" is a great thing. Most so-called "Christians" that are associated with mainstream religion such as Catholicism are not followers of Christ in their deeds.

when i think or see the word christian i think demon since they act so hateful yet they say they love everyone.
how can anyone love another using fear as a motive? fear ignorance and hatred divide people not unify them its sad really that christians go around calling everyone else demons when they are the real demons worshipping a demon god and believing that non christians who never heard or read the bible are going to hell. this is all i can say on the matter really.

No offense to all you Christians but when you say (or type, for the matter) the word "Christians" I think of a bunch of bible crazy freaks telling everyone what to do and reading Psalms.
