It does not make you grow taller, but it does stretch out your spine. During sleep at night, your spine stretches and decompresses and during the day it compresses. People can actually be an inch shorter by end of day -- if you're a driver you may have noticed you need to adjust your rear-view mirror on the way home from work.

So hanging is probably a good way to decompress the spine and get a stretch, but won't make you permanently taller.

Also, be careful about hanging because it can cause stress on the shoulder joints and even dislocate them.
